The International 501c3 Opens Tech Network to Support Local Engineering Community

SAN FRANCISCO, March 10th, 2017Women Who Code (WWCode), a globally recognized non-profit organization that works to help women succeed in technology careers, announces the launch of a local community Network in Chennai. This move into the third largest city in India continues their global expansion, which includes a footprint of 20 countries and over 60 cities around the world.

Women Who Code Chennai is being guided by Director Neha Kaura, who spoke about her motivations for starting the Network, “The dearth of women in technology was only made apparent to me when I experienced it first hand after I started working as a professional and saw most of my female batch mates gravitating towards non tech careers despite holding a degree with distinction in computer science. Soon I realized that a support system was lacking which was making it tougher for women to survive or break back into the field. So for the benefit of all those women who have a passion for tech and mine I felt it necessary to take the initiative.”

The Network officially launched in February of last year with an introductory networking and tech talk. Since then they’ve held a number of events, including several focused on Ruby, and the group has grown to include over 176 members. They also have a special Women’s Day Web Designer Toolkit Conference scheduled for March 12th which will include panels on layout, design, web development, and industry best practices.

When asked about the organization's international expansion, Women Who Code Global Leadership Director Joey Rosenberg stated that, “We are committed to connecting women around the world with careers in the technology industry. Our work in India and throughout Asia has already yielded excellent results in this endeavor, and I’m excited to be partnering with a talented individual like Neha to continue our efforts in this area.”
