Maker Bytes

Issue 154

We are building features for the Women Who Code community and we want to highlight that work with our stakeholders, you! THANK YOU to our contributors for dedicating their valuable time to help us build tech a place where women can excel.

You can follow all of our work on github. Below are a few snippets of our awesome features.

Released

This week the WWCode Core Team has been working on some exciting features, including adding Slack and YouTube to Network pages, improving the accessibility of our profiles, and upgrading our Network Events pages and Coding resources.

Fixed

Twitter Icon & WWCode Name Overlap on RSS Feed Cards

We fixed an issue we were having with Network Twitter feeds. After being added to Website Network pages, some Twitter feeds that had longer names were overlapping the Twitter logo. This solves that by adding a wrap to the name so that even longer names no longer overlap the logo.

Changed

Only Show Published Coding Resources

We have set it up to allow for coding resources to be placed in a draft, or canceled state by an admin, which will not show as live on the site. Only published resources can be viewed by visitors.

Event Meetup Link

We updated the Network events pages by allowing events to be tagged as "Featured" or "Recurring" for better ease of browsing.

Change Profile Form Checkboxes to be Accessible

We've updated the profile form checkboxes to be accessible. This includes a slightly improved design, and the ability to tab to every checkbox and see a focus state when un-checked, with only one gender showing at a time. You can also check and uncheck the boxes using the spacebar, and you can submit the form by tabbing to the submission box and hitting enter or space.

Added

Add YouTube and Slack

This is an exciting update that allows Network Leads to add links to a YouTube page and Slack channel on their Website Network page. We're hoping this expands the community even more by allowing Networks to create online communities around their members using social media tools. There are currently 6 social media sites that Networks can display: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Github, Youtube, and Slack.

Applauds!
