Local Group to Host Educational, Leadership, and Industry Events to Support Engineers in The Community
Cleveland – January 31st, 2017 — Women Who Code (WWCode), an international non-profit that supports diversity in the technology industry while empowering engineers to achieve their professional goals, announces the launch of their newest Network in Cleveland, Ohio. This group will support the local tech community by hosting free study groups, panels, lightning talks, and keynotes featuring influential industry experts and investors.
The Women Who Code Cleveland Network will be led by Director Nicole McGuire, whose responsibilities will include holding regular events, forming relationships with venues and sponsors, helping with internal leadership programs and promotions, and guiding the direction of the community. Joining her will be Evangelist Tina Straw, who will handle the group's social media and marketing outreach activities.
Nicole McGuire spoke about the importance of bringing Women Who Code to the area, “There is a great deal of energy in Cleveland now and that is spilling over into the tech sector. Bringing a nationally recognized organization like Women Who Code to Cleveland will create an immediate network of resources for women.”
Cleveland joins Cincinnati as the second Network that Women Who Code has established in Ohio, and is one of 60 currently launched around the world. The local group already consists of over 100 members. The inaugural event is taking place on January 31st at JumpStart Inc with an agenda that includes a brief intro, a series of programming activities, and then a brainstorming session to determine the course of future meetings.
Women Who Code Global Leadership Director Joey Rosenberg said “Women Who Code is important because we support underrepresented groups in tech, empowering them to achieve success. That increases diversity in the industry, which is good for individuals, businesses, communities, and the economy at large. I believe that this new Network, under the steady guidance of Nicole, has a chance to have an incredible impact on the city of Cleveland.”
