Women Who Code Launches New Network in Brisbane

The Australian City is the Third in the Continent, and the 54th Network for the International 30,000+ Member Non Profit
SAN FRANCISCO, AUGUST 4, 2015 — Women Who Code (WWCode), an organization dedicated to inspiring women to excel in the technology field has just announced the launch of their Brisbane network. This is the third group they have inspired in Australia, and the 54th that they have launched in their international crusade to bring the promise of technology careers to women across the globe.
“This new network expands our reach and is an important step towards us connecting one million women with the tech industry,” according to Alaina Percival, CEO and Board Chair of WWCode. She went on to say that, “Mia Zhu, the Director of the group, is an incredible woman who has done great things for the organization, and is so full of plans and inspiration that I can’t wait to see what she has in store for the Brisbane Network.”
Women Who Code has reached more than 30,000 women, helping them to find education, networking opportunities, and even careers in the technology industry. They currently exist on 5 continents and 18 countries around the world, and their reach has been increasing at a rapid pace. This new group follows on the heels of the creation of branches in Mexico City, Birmingham, Alabama, and Algiers, all of which have launched in the last 30 days.
When asked about her motivation to create a Women Who Code group in Brisbane, Director Mia Zhu said, “I not only know that there are women here who can benefit from the events that we will create, but they will enthusiastically help me to organize and run those functions. We can do a lot of good for the world, and things like that always start locally.”
The Brisbane WWCode network already has 94 members with more people signing up every day. They also have a number of events scheduled including talks by industry leaders, interactive coding workshops, and educational activities designed to create collaborative learning experiences. Everything that they offer is free and is open to the entire Brisbane area in hopes of fostering a savvy and code conscious community of women ready to take over the tech industry in their part of the world.
