AIG Life & Retirement to Host Launch Event on March 5

HOUSTON, March 5, 2019 Women Who Code (WWCode), the largest and most active women in tech nonprofit in the world, in partnership with American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG) and its Life & Retirement business, is proud to announce that it is launching its newest Network in Houston, Texas. This location will provide the community with technical events, conferences, training, mentorship, and leadership support, while also supporting and inspiring the careers of technical women in the city.

The official WWCode Houston launch party will be held on March 5 from 6-8:30 p.m. at AIG’s campus, located at 2727 Allen Parkway in Houston.

The group will be led by Network Directors Shefali Kapoor-Patel, Wanjun Zhang, Aditi Singh, Julie Jonak, Roopa Rajala, Saima Rajwani, and Silver Ehiwario. They will focus on producing technical events in Houston, working to identify and elevate leaders from within the network and performing outreach to help the community continue to grow.

“Hiring women in senior roles is good for business and company growth. When we inspire more women to excel in technology careers, we are bridging the gender gap in technology and we will also be creating a working culture that represents their interest,” said WWCode Houston Director Silver Ehiwario.

The event is sponsored by VALIC, AIG’s Group Retirement business and a leading retirement plan provider for healthcare, K-12, higher education, government, religious, charitable and other not-for-profit institutions.

“We are excited about the launch of the WWCode Houston Network and value the partnership as an opportunity to access and help shape the best talent for our future success,” said Scott Witter, Senior Vice President, VALIC. “Our team engages top talent to deliver innovative retirement planning and financial solutions for our clients. We recognize the groundswell of talent fostered by organizations like Women Who Code. The creativity, intelligence and passion of these women, coupled with the opportunity to develop technical and leadership skills, results in the best solutions and a broader perspective that only diversity can provide.”

WWCode Chief Leadership Officer Joey Rosenberg added, “Our Networks have the ability to make an indelible difference in the local tech community, and I am excited to see what our new leaders will be able to do to inspire the women of Houston to excel in their tech careers. We are also grateful to partners like AIG, who allow us to bring Women Who Code to more cities.”
