SAN FRANCISCO, February 25, 2015 — Women Who Code (WWCode), a US based 501c3 non-profit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers, recently announced the launch of its Mexico City Network. WWCode Mexico City joins their sister Networks, Colima and Merida, in advocacy efforts for women in technology in Mexico. The group is already gaining popularity with 92 people joining since its inception, bringing the total membership across the nation to almost 400.

Dayra Chiu and Marcela Lango are directing the operations of the Mexico City Network and representing the interests of the non profit in the area. When asked about her motivation for helping to start the group, Chiu said, “I’m trying to have a positive impact on the community and build something that could help people and make their lives easier.” Lango also added, “WWCode changes the way people see the world by promoting gender equality, and helping women to reach their full professional potential.”

The first meeting is scheduled to take place on February 25th and there are already 70 people signed up to attend, with another 13 having to be put on a wait list. Commenting on the Network launch and the upcoming event, Alaina Percival, CEO and Board Chair of WWCode said, “We are proud of the strong response that we have seen from the local community. Dayra and Marcela have done an amazing job setting this Network up for success, and we have high expectations for what these two women can do to help others throughout the city and across Mexico.”

Women Who Code is a US based 501c3 non-profit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers. The organization provides an avenue into tech, empowers women with skills needed for professional advancement, and provides environments where networking and mentorship are valued. To date, the organization has executed more than 1,200 free events around the world, garnered a membership exceeding 25,000, and has a presence in 15 countries.
