Women Who Code Hosts First Benefit of 2015

Just shy of celebrating its 1 year anniversary as a 501c3, organization wastes no time with secondary fundraising push
SAN FRANCISCO, May 26, 2015 — Women Who Code (WWCode), a non-profit with a mission dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers hosted its first Benefit of the year at Yelp headquarters in downtown San Francisco, marking the second round of fundraising for the recently formed non-profit organization.
“We are so grateful for partners like Yelp, who are truly dedicated to supporting us in our advocacy efforts,” said Alaina Percival, CEO of Women Who Code. The event attracted a crowd of nearly 200 attendees, including executives from Sony, Google, Accenture, and Box, along with Partners from Bay area Venture Capital firms. “It was wonderful to see so many constituents who are truly passionate about our work and I’m thrilled to announce we successfully raised $50,000,” Percival said. All funds raised from the benefit go directly toward helping WWCode expand its global presence, increase its impact, and further develop organization program offerings.
Komal Mangtani, VP of Engineering at Box and WWCode Advisory Board member gave a glowing review of both the organization and the event. “The Women Who Code event last Wednesday had the right balance of audience in terms of upcoming, mid level and senior engineers and managers,” Mangtani commented. “WWCode truly fuels the growth of women through their enriching network, helps retain them in the industry through a reliable support system — thereby improving our chances to increase overall percentage of female leaders in technology.”
Several major updates were made public at the benefit, including the announcement of the launch of the Birmingham, AL Network and the Medellin, Colombia Network. In total, worldwide impact now includes 53 cities spanning 18 countries. Of note, major event sponsors included Capital One, Zendesk, Etsy, Lyft, NewsCorp, Pole To Win, and Infinidat. The Benefit included a live fundraising round with a text to donate option, a DJ, full bar, and locally sourced appetizers and desserts.

Women Who Code is a U.S. based non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers. To date, WWCode has produced more than 2,000 free technical events around the world, garnered a membership exceeding 30,000, and has a presence in 18 countries.
