World’s Largest Women in Tech Nonprofit Hosting Movement-Based Fundraising Event
ATLANTA – JULY 7TH, 2023 —Women Who Code (WWCode) is proud to announce the launch of WWCode to the Finish Line, a fundraising program that invites participants from around the world to walk, run, or roll one mile in support of the organization’s work to empower diverse women working in tech. Fundraising is open now, and participants can get involved at any point, with the event culminating on September 23rd. The activity will be hosted virtually on the JustGiving platform with Women Who Code hoping to raise $325,000 by the end of September.
WWCode to the Finish Line is an inclusive event that will allow participants to engage in the 1 mile / 1.6 km show of support from any location, and by walking, jogging, or rolling. People are being encouraged to participate as both solo participants, and by forming teams. Fundraising can be accomplished by signing up for an account on the WWCode to the Finish Line JustGiving page and then sharing it with their social and professional circles. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available for our inaugural Women Who Code to the Finish Line event.
This is the first time that Women Who Code has engaged in a movement-based fundraiser. Connecting people everywhere for a single purpose and cause, which is both virtual and physical, is a powerful way for the company to demonstrate how it has evolved through the quarantine of recent years and is re-emerging as a force for both in-person and virtual support of diverse technologists.
“We’re really excited about this program as it demonstrates the impact that the Women Who Code community can have when we come together in support of greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in technology,” said Sandy Welfare, Chief Development Officer at Women Who Code. “With WWCode to the Finish Line we’re not just raising support for our programming, we are creating a tangible moment that will be shared by our members and partners.”
Women Who Code’s mission is to empower diverse women to excel in technology careers. Their main programming consists of both virtual and in-person events pertaining to technology, innovation, and tech career navigation. They also have a library of over 1,600 free and on-demand educational videos, a blog with over 1,500 articles written by experts in the industry, and a weekly podcast that features diverse women technologists in places of leadership and social good.
