MUMBAI, INDIA – JULY 25TH, 2019 Women Who Code (WWCode), the largest international organization dedicated to supporting the success of women in tech, is proud to announce the launch of our newest local Network in Mumbai, India. This group will support the city’s engineering community by hosting free technical workshops, career training events, and talks featuring leaders and innovators in the industry.

Women Who Code Mumbai’s launch event is taking place on July 27th at the offices of Insider.in. The Network will initially be led by Directors Sahiba Chopra, Akanksha Vyas, Preeti Wadhwani, Megha Gupta, Shaina Patel, and Aatika Khan. They will be tasked with guiding the community, planning and executing events, and working to empower other members of the Network to step up into leadership positions themselves.

Network Director Sahiba Chopra spoke about the launch, “Mumbai is an emerging tech city with a growing number of women interested in pursuing technology careers. Women Who Code has done such great work in other cities across India and the world – we are excited to bring the community to Mumbai! We aspire to provide enough networking, support & coding events to help women in Mumbai launch & grow their careers.”

The launch event will feature a talk by VMInclusion Taara Program Manager Harjeet Pruthi. VMinclusion Taara is a joint initiative between VMware & WomenWhoCode committed to train and upskill 15,000 people who have left the industry and help them return to work. WWCode Mumbai is counted as the fifth network in India, and through their work, they will contribute to the 1,900 free technical events that the organization hosts around the world each year. In addition, Directors and members that step up to Leadership positions in the group will become part of the WWCode Global Leadership Program that is supporting over 500 with training and opportunities to help them rise as leaders in the industry.

“The power of Women Who Code to change the world and the industry comes from the impact that we can have on the lives and careers of our individual members,” said WWCode CEO and Board Chair Alaina Percival. “We’ve got some amazing individuals who have stepped up as Directors for this new Network and with their help, I know that we can do incredible things for the tech community in Mumbai.”
