Siwei Kang – Working Her Way to Digital Nomad

Siwei Kang's interest in programming was first sparked during an intro to computer science class. There she worked to develop an action fighting game that both captured her imagination and fired her enthusiasm for a career in code. This led her to pursue a degree in CS, achieving a Bachelors in 2012 from the University of Washington.

During her career, Siwei has worked as an engineer at such prestigious companies as Amazon, NVIDIA, and she is currently a Front End Developer for Skyscanner. She's also worked on a number of interesting side projects including an interactive Secret Santa website and an iphone keyboard that autocompletes emojis. However she dreams of one day leveraging technology to remove the bounds of physical employment, allowing her to live as a digital nomad and work from wherever she pleases.

Along the way Siwei has helped many people, offering wisdom and mentorship to the next generation of talented engineers, while providing guidance as to how to best achieve their dream goals. She is also an active member of WWCode UK, which she describes as, A great way to meet like minded people.

When asked what advice she has for those pursuing a career in tech she said, Don’t limit yourself. There is so much you can do as an engineer other than just working on your work projects.
