A software engineer with a degree in computer science, Sheree Atcheson was motivated at a young age to turn her passion for programming into a successful career. Now, just one year after her graduation from University she’s already handled a variety of high profile assignments for the UK government, including one which involved improving the UK online voting platform.

When asked about this latest government project she remarked, “A lot of people are using the changes I made every day. That’s kind of a cool thought. That the code you work on one day is being used by thousands of people the next day. I’ve learned a lot on this project and my technical capability is so much stronger now than it was beforehand.”

In addition, Sheree also represents the interests of WWCode in the UK, driving expansion efforts and supporting the overall operations of the UK Networks. According to her WWCode has changed my career entirely. I’m 23, and I assist in the management of a huge non-profit across an entire country. I could have never imagined that I’d have done something like this when I graduated just last year.

With her early success Sheree acknowledges she still faces challenges. Being a junior member of the tech community she, at times, faces opposition from those around her. However, she remains focused on her goals and continues to be successful, stating, I know myself that WWCode has helped make a difference to the gender bias in this industry and I will always be extremely proud of that.
