Local Leaders of WWcode Seattle and Austin Networks Transition to Become Advisors to the World’s Largest Women in Tech Nonprofit

SAN FRANCISCO – April 6th, 2018 Women Who Code (WWCode), the 137,000 member women in tech nonprofit, announces the newest Advisors: Sandra Persing, Global Program Manager at Mozilla, and Sara Inés Calderon, Lead React Native Developer at musx. These are the first WWCode Advisors that have also acted as Directors of local WWCode Networks and have participated in the organization’s Global Leadership Program.

As Director of Women Who Code Seattle, Sandra helped grow the local community from 300 to over 3,000 members, while producing two consecutive WWCode CONNECT global technology conferences. In her role as Director of WWCode Austin, Sara Inés helped to organize and produce the Network’s technical programming, while also spreading the word about their events and offerings in an Evangelist role.

Women Who Code Global Leadership Director, Joey Rosenberg said, “We’re thrilled that Sara and Sandra are bringing their expertise and enthusiasm to the WWCode Advisory Council. It really speaks to the success of our Global Leadership program. Right now, there are over 145 Directors gaining leadership experience, opportunities, and mentorship to grow their careers. We are seeing the results as these incredible women achieve amazing things and take their rightful places as leaders in the industry.”

“I see organizations like Women Who Code as essential to helping more women and people of color segue into careers in technology,” said Sara Inés Calderon. “In my own experience it was the community, networking, opportunities and all-around support I received from Women Who Code Austin that supported me from the days of searching for my first job to now leading a tech team. Women Who Code has provided me and many others with just the boost I needed to navigate the challenges of transitioning to a career in tech in order to thrive.”

Sandra Persing reinforced those sentiments, “I choose to support Women Who Code because it’s the only organization that demonstrates that through the virtuous cycle of learning and leading, women can be a driving force for innovation and ideas in technology.”

Women Who Code currently has Networks located in 60 cities and 20 countries around the world. Members who join the Global Leadership Program are tasked with organizing and developing these local groups, and helping to produce the over 1,900 free tech events the organization holds each year. This gives them them valuable management experience and industry visibility. The WWCode HQ Team also works with these Leaders to help them develop their skills and grow their professional opportunities.
