An Applaud Her is a way of recognizing a professional achievement. It is an accolade that seeks to honor career triumph, while also acting as a clarion call, a beacon that demonstrates the capacity for success that exists within all of us.
Women in the tech industry often suffer from a lack of recognition. As a gender minority we are overlooked for praise and promotion, and are left to try and generate our own sense of accomplishment, despite the lack of overt acknowledgement. That is why Applaud Hers are so important. They reinforce the pride of people too long overlooked, while helping to rewrite the maligned image of an industry colored by unconscious bias.
Last month, at the WWCode CONNECT 2016 Conference, we had the honor of being able to share Applaud Her moments and memories with a vast variety of talented women from around the world. In this post we seek to spread the sense of pride and achievement that glows with each note, so that the entire Women Who Code community can benefit from the success of their professional peers.
